Why your support matters

Independent reporting takes time.

On July 28, I sat through all five hours of an RTD Board meeting where millions of dollars in taxpayer spending and bus service affecting thousands of riders were on the agenda. There were no local TV cameras covering the meeting and no line of reporters wearing press badges.

Earlier that month, I spent days reading hundreds of pages of RTD budget documents and reported on proposed fare increases and service cuts 48 to 72 hours before larger Denver outlets caught on.

That's the kind of journalism I want Thompson's Colorado to continue producing.

It means attending the meetings that aren't televised. Reading the documents most people don't have time to read. Riding the bus routes, biking the corridors, filing public records requests and asking follow-up questions until there are answers.
