About Thompsorado
Hi, I’m Nick Thompson.
I’m a Longmont resident, cyclist, transit advocate, and former journalist who believes local stories deserve attention.
I launched Thompsorado to cover the issues, projects, and decisions shaping Longmont, Boulder County, and Colorado. My reporting focuses on local government, transportation, growth and development, public records, and exploring Colorado without a car.
Since moving to Colorado, I’ve become fascinated by how people move around the Front Range and how local decisions affect everyday life. Whether it’s a proposed airport bus, a city rebate program, a trail project, a transit funding debate, or a public records request, I believe local journalism can help residents better understand what’s happening in their communities.
Recent coverage has included Longmont’s proposed Route AL airport bus to Denver International Airport, RTD fare and service-cut proposals, data center development in the region, and a public-records investigation into Longmont’s Fourth of July fireworks contract. Future reporting will continue to focus on the stories, meetings, and decisions that impact residents across Longmont and Boulder County.
You’ll also find stories about biking, buses, trains, hiking, and reaching some of Colorado’s most interesting destinations without driving. Some of the best adventures in Colorado don’t require a car, and I enjoy showing people how to get there.
The name Thompsorado combines my last name with the state I now call home. It reflects both my personal connection to Colorado and my goal of creating a publication that is rooted in the places and communities it covers.
My mission is simple: provide clear, accessible reporting that helps people understand their communities, discover new ways to experience Colorado, and stay informed about the decisions shaping the future of the Front Range.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for being part of the journey.
